With diamonds being April's birthstone we thought we would share some fun facts on this iconic beauty the Hope diamond. 1. the original 112ct blue diamond is believed to have come from India purchased by french merchant Jean-Baptiste Tavernier around 1666 AD 2. it became the French blue (69ct) and was part of the french crown jewels until the French revolution in 1792 3. in 1812 a 45.5ct blue diamond came on the market (20 years was the statute of limitations on the theft of the french blue) 4. in 2005 a lost model of the french blue was found and using CAD it was confirmed the hope came from the french blue. 5. Today the hope is on display at the Smithsonian 6. the Hope diamond is the largest deep blue diamond in the world getting its mesmerizing blue color from trace amounts of boron. 7.
